Musical Tribute to the real Postman Pat , Side 1

Open your ears everyone! This is a special audio cassette from the makers of the original Postman Pat ! It includes an extended version of the main theme which many children would enjoy re-wording! Accept no impersonators and certainly do not assume Pat has always flown a helicopter. Like many of you, I was appalled that this British TV icon was being re-made by someone who clearly doesn't understand PP's quirkiness and charm, and the new programme's music was too much of a drastic change. In retaliation or for the sake of nostalgia, here is some of the more original music. This was made with some real instruments, time signatures and emotions! Not made for the kids of today with short attention spans. They won't all fit into 10 minutes so I have shortened them but you'll get the general feel of them. Please comment here if you prefer the old, original, Postman Pat brand. It was from a world that wasn't so tied up with being PC.

Music Lessons For Adults - Two Ways You Can Learn a Musical Instrument Easily As an Adult

As adult the thought of picking up a guitar and learning to play might seem intimidating, even if you've dreamed of doing it your whole life. Children and teenagers have a much easier time learning new things like musical instruments both because they're still developing mentally and they have ample free time.

In this brief article I want to share with you two methods you can use to learn an instrument like the piano or guitar even if you have a busy schedule and don't believe you have a musical bone in your body. I can't promise you'll be a rock star, but you'll have a lot of fun.

There are two main challenges that adults face when they want to learn an instrument.

1.) Money, private music lesson cost a lot of money and because of that they're often push aside for other more realistic expenses.
2.) Time, in order to take private music lessons you must have the same night available week after week to take your lessons then find more time to practice.

What if you could overcome both of those obstacles? It would probably make it a lot easier to learn wouldn't it?

Let's look at two alternatives that exist that can help you save money and time while learning to play a musical instrument.

Online Lessons

That's right, you can learn the guitar, piano and even the drums through online video lessons. Most of these lessons are streamed, or played live off of the Internet on your computer screen. These types of instruction generally work better for instruments that are portable like the guitar since you can more easily play what you're being taught right in front of you computer.

The primary benefits to online lessons are the cost is far less then private lessons and you're in total control of when you choose to watch lessons, practice and how quickly you progress.

DVD Lessons

The second form of self study music lessons available are dvd lessons. I'm a fan of using dvd video lessons because they can be more easily used on your home TV and dvd player and you don't need an Internet connection to watch them.

The cost is about the same, although you usually pay an on going monthly fee for online lessons until you're done versus a one time fee for dvd lessons.

Both Online and DVD lessons make it easy for adults to learn an instrument without having to over commit to weekly instruction sessions and monthly lesson costs.

Harvest Moon: Animal Parade - Baby is Born

-2 hearts: door visit with gift -3 hearts: considered "friends" -4 hearts: door visit with more romantic gift -5 hearts: date -6 hearts: love letter -7 hearts: confession -9/10 hearts: eligible for marriage (with Level 2 house and Blue Feather) I'm not sure, but I believe that the only requirement to have a baby after marriage is a Level 3 house. Immediately after the upgrade (it was only a week or two after the wedding), I woke up to a scene with Toby thinking about the possibility of having a child. That's when you choose the future kid's gender - or you can ask the spouse for his/her preference. After that scene, a "Baby Day" gets marked on your calendar, and that's when the child will be born. (Taiko's birthday happens to be Spring 24. That's the same as my original player character's birthday from Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. =D) Toby: "I'll be right here. I'll hold your hand." Irene: "No you won't. Go wait outside." xD; The waiting and pacing around the Clinic was totally sweet, though. And the baby's cry! It's so adorable! Not nearly as annoying as in previous games! Sometimes it even laughs randomly, which is even cuter. ...Now, don't even bother telling me that if "Taiko" was a real name it would be a girl's name. X_X I searched and searched for real uses of the name, but, besides the fact that it's an incredibly rare and unlikely name for people or even fictional characters, the few instances I found were for females... so, I know. I realize that it's because ...

Musical Notes - What is a Minim?

A "minim" is a musical note that is widely used in piano sheet music. In fact, it's used in all sheet music for all musical instruments.

The minim has a hollow non-coloured oval shape with a stem on the right or left side depending on where on the staff it is written. When the minim is written higher up the staff or above the middle line, the stem will be written on the left side of the oval and pointing downwards. If it is below the middle line then the stem is written on the right side and pointing upwards. There are no hard and fast rules regarding this and ultimately whether to write the stem on left or right will be more for neatness and also to leave room for chord symbols and lyrics.

The minim is also referred to as a half note yet its musical time value is two beats. This is because the minim or half note should be referenced to the semibreve, which is worth four beats. Half of four equals two; the minim is worth two beats and is also half the value of a semibreve, hence the name half note.

An important reference note to all others, is the semibreve. A semibreve is also known as a whole note. Using simple fractions you can work out what different types of notes are called. We have already explained half notes, next would be quarter notes then eight notes and so on.

Also related to the minim is the minim rest or half rest. This is a musical silence worth two beats. A half rest is written as a small black rectangular box, which sits on the middle line of the staff.

Another relation to the minim is the dotted minim or dotted half note, which is worth three beats. It's useful to know that a dot written on the right side of any musical note, increases that's notes value by half as much again. So in the minims case, half of two equals one, add the one to the minims value of two, two plus one equals three.

Even though notes such as the minim, which we now know, can be referred to as a half note, it is useful to know the actual name of the note. The smallest note value in modern music is a sixty fourth note called a "hemidemsemiquaver" and the highest note value is called a "breve" which is worth eight beats and is not used anymore. Which is just as well or it would confuse things even more.

The History and Heritage of Yamaha Drums

By far one of the most recognisable brands in modern music is Yamaha. Yamaha make a vast array of musical instruments, among which are drums. Yamaha are an old company and have been making musical instruments for well over half a century. They began producing drum kits in 1967. Initially Yamaha drums were heavily influenced by other big manufacturers at the time, namely Ludwig drums. However they quickly found there own style, and have since developed into arguably the most dominant player, with a strong reputation for innovation.

Today Yamaha drums are produced in Japan and Indonesia. All drum shells are still produced by hand, right across the range. This in itself is quite an achievement, considering the manufacturing industries love of lean mass production. Yamaha's high end kits are built in Japan, while the lower price range kits are built in Indonesia.

The main difference between the production that's carried out at the plants is in the wood used in the shells. High-end drum kits utilise more expensive woods like Maple and Birch, thus the Yamaha Maple Custom, Recording Custom and Absolute series are made in Japan, while the Stage Custom and Tour Custom are made in Indonesia. Although you might assume that the standard of production is lower on the more basic kits produced in Indonesia, the build quality is pretty uniform throughout the entire Yamaha range, with the price difference often accounted for in material costs and additional features.

As well as a full range of acoustic drum kits, Yamaha are renowned for their Electronic drum kits and are widely regarded as the company that first turned electronic drum kits from a basket case in the mid-eighties into a credible alternative to acoustic drums.

Indian Music

An important aspect of the Indian culture is obviously the Indian music. You can't even imagine what important Indian music is to Hinduism. Music and dance has even a religious importance in Hinduism. In fact the beginning of the Indian music is based on religion. The first songs in Indian were in fact religious hymns and ballads. They were called "bhajans" and were based on religious facts, legends and myths. They used few musical instruments, such as the sitar or a table.

Due to the fact that there are many languages spoken in India, and not just one as in the case of most of the countries, India has more than one Indian music entity. In fact, there is no such a single entity as Indian music at all. You might think that since the India is in its majority predominantly rural, such music categories form the majority. But, due to the development of television, communications and mass media, Indian music is nowadays based on a pan-Indian popular style, recorded electronically. This is popular to us with the Indian films. The Indian film industry was the one that made Indian music word wide popular.

Original Indian music actually refers to an old music, a traditional one based on raga and a rhythmic system called "tala". Raga is considered to be the melodic basis of Indian classical music. The word comes from Sanskrit and means color. Raga is not only a musical idea. It inspired painters, poets, architects and art in general. So we can say that raga influences the Indian culture.

This genre appeared for the first time thousands of years ago, and comes from the early Hindu settlers. It was different then, and reached the form we all know today about five hundred years ago. It was called "sangit" and it described a vocal music accompanied by instrumental music and dance.

The Muslim invasion in the 13th and 16th century played the most important roles into the bifurcation of the Indian music into a northern and southern tradition: a Hindustani music and Carnatic music. They keep the traditional influences of raga and "tala" but borrowed other influences too. As we all know it, India is made of several ethnic groups, each with their own languages, dialects and traditions. So, the Indian music has Persian, Arab and even British music influences. Yet, the traditional Indian music, Hindustani and Carnatic music remain the fundament of the Indian music we listen today, and also sources of cultural expression, religious inspiration and pure entertainment. The first texts of Indian music were Sangita-Ratnakara, Natya shastra and Brihaddeshi.

But here is how Indian music made it to the open. It all began with Bangladesh-born Ali Akbar Khan's 1955 concert in New York. After that, the demand for Indian music leads to the hippy ethos, and "raga-rock" became the trend of the 60's. Byrd's album "Morning and evening ragas" was the first Indian music album to appear in the western world. It became so popular in the Sixties than he reached more than 10 albums. More, in 1967 the
Ali Akbar College of Music in the San Francisco Bay Area was founded by Khan.
Indian musical instruments can be mainly classified into three categories: classical, western and folk instruments. There are wind, percussion and string instruments. The win d instruments are: bansuri (one of the oldest instruments in India), nadaswaram, pungi, shehnai and pullanguzhal. The percussion ones are : chanda, dhol, dholak, ghatam, idakka, kanjira, tabla, mridangham, pakhavaj, and thavil. The string ones are: ektara, tanpura, esraj, sarangi, sarod, sitar, santoor, and gottuvadhyam. But these are not all. There are other native Indian music instruments that I can mention.

Saxophones

The saxophone is one of the youngest musical instruments. It was invented by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian, in the 1840s. The saxophone has a sound that is very close to the human voice, which is why it is used to express emotions. The saxophone often compliments the French horn, since both of them have a similar range and timbre. A saxophone is as complex as a classical instrument yet as unconventional as a non-classical instrument.

The saxophone was originally used in the military, though it is now a popular jazz instrument. It is generally used in big bands, marching bands and concerts. Saxophones are mostly related with jazz because they are used mostly to play jazz music. However, they are also used for classical music. Saxophone players are called saxophonists.

Saxophones are classified as woodwind instruments, though they are generally made of brass. They are coated with clear or colored lacquer. Some saxophones also have gold or silver plating. The lacquer coating not only helps to prevent corrosion but also enhances the quality of sound and gives a beautiful look to the instrument. The mouthpiece may be made of plastic, rubber, metal, wood or glass. However, the material does not affect the sound quality. The shape of the mouthpiece is found to have an effect on the quality of sound, since those with a concave chamber are felt to produce softer tones.

The saxophone is similar to a clarinet, in the sense that both use a single mouthpiece. However, it has a square or round evacuated inner chamber. The body is conical in shape, like the oboe, though the curve is more distinctive at the bell. Saxophones may be straight or curved, though straight ones are more common.

The main parts in a saxophone are: the mouth-piece including the ligature and the reed; the main tube that has tone holes and keys; a series of rods that connect the keys to the tone holes; the pads that securely cover the tone holes and, most importantly, the bell. The neck strap is also important since saxophones can be very heavy.

There are several kinds of saxophones but the four most common are: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones. The Alto saxophones are smaller and ideal for first-time players. They are also the most popular kind. There are also vintage saxophones available.

Second-hand saxophones can also be bought for a reasonable price. While buying a used saxophone, ensure that the keys aren't noisy or leaking. Also check for dents or scratches. The pads and the cork should be in good working condition. It is better to get it checked by a professional before buying it.

The local music store, mail-order service, a private party or the Internet are possible sources for buying saxophones. The main aspects to be considered are the quality, service, price and the model. The Internet is a good place to find information about saxophones, but it is a good idea to test a few of them before buying.

History of String Instruments

Of all string musical instruments, the "classical" string instrument that we call the violin would arguably be the most familiar to the most people on any list of string instruments. Renowned in the history of string instruments and instruments of the orchestra, the violin's renown first grew among the Renaissance instruments, although at first among the "classical" music instruments of later decades (really the early Baroque period) it was considered to be a symbol of low social status before the efforts of composers like Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi and the performances of groups like King Louis XIII's 24 Violons du Roi the violin began to gain the respect that it enjoys in such great abundance today.

The fiddle and the lira da braccio (another Renaissance instrument) seem to have been the two immediate precursors to the violin. However, the Indus Valley string instruments known as the ravanstron, the rabab, and the rebec trace their start all the way back to 5000 B.C.E. and these bowed string instruments, too, are apparently precursors to the violin. Probably the very earliest direct ancestors of the European violin, however, can be traced back to the 9th century in Asia. All string instruments began as types of bows and were plucked. Today, the violin is actually played with a bow (though plucking the strings with the technique known as "pizzicato" is used to get a staccato effect from the violin). The rabab and ravanastron could also be bowed or plucked, and became widely used in percussion-accompanied dance music throughout the Indus Valley, Persia, North Africa, and later on Arabia.

By the 11th century, Europeans had invented the the vielle and the rote, both of which are also known to be violin ancestors and both of which were derived conceptually from the zither, one of the first ancient string instruments that was played with a plectrum as the modern non-classical guitar is. It was during this time with these instruments that the fingerboard was added so that string instruments could be played with either a bow or by plucking with a plectrum or the fingers in "pizzicato" style. The fingerboard also allowed new notes to be produced by the fingers placing stops at various places along the length of the strings to allow higher or lower vibrational frequencies. The vielle and rote may well have been modeled on the Muslim Arabic rebec of visiting merchants from North Africa or the Middle East. The rebec includes a half-pear shaped body, a fingerboard, a box with tuning pegs, tuning in 5ths, three strings, and the necessity of being played with a bow while being held against the breast or shoulder.

It was during the Baroque period, considered the first "classical" music period of Western Europe and the modern world and dating its start to 1660, that the violin really began to soar. Antionio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Georg Philipp Telemann were the three greatest Baroque period violin music composers. The luthier artistry of Antonio Stradivari, Guiseppe Guarneri, and Jacob Stainer began creating magnificent-sounding violins during this period and on into the subsequent Classical period. It was during the Romantic period of the 19th century with the emergence of performers like Niccolo Paganini that the now-famous violin virtuoso emerged, with the works of Classical composers like Mozart and Beethoven having paved the way for them to rise.

Today, of course, the ability to play the violin well is considered a mark of good breeding or a sophisticated education--not low social status!

Drum Sets

There are many musical instruments to choose should you decide you'd like to play one. If you like listening to classical music, then you should perhaps take up an instrument like the flute or clarinet. But if you like rock-and-roll music, there is no other instrument like a drum set to set the pace and pull a band together. Pretty soon you'll need to buy your own drum set, but don't make a rash decision by buying the first set you see. There are some things to keep in mind first.

If you're a novice to the world of drumming, you don't need a drum set to get started. You can start to learn to play drums with a t a practice pad, drumsticks, and some foot tapping. The first important lesson to learn about drum playing is how to keep a beat and how to use drumsticks. In no time at all, you'll be ready to move on to your very first drum set.

Before you purchase a drum set, keep in mind that you are not a professional yet. A professional set can cost thousands of dollars, but is not really necessary for a beginner. Brand-name starter drum sets can be found for under $500, and some non-brand drum sets for half that.

Practice makes perfect and after awhile, you can start thinking about forming a band or joining one. Bands always have a drummer, guitar and bass player. Who knows, if your group practices long enough - you may earn a living playing drums.

Blue-watery environment on scene, it was my great memory in concert 83: "La pulce d'acqua". The rhythmic one was that of 78 but the orchestration is well in tendency 83. For the first time during the interpretation of this song, Angelo seems to be more contained (less insane!) and the various instruments are detached with more clearness. "La pulce d'acqua" 83 is not this musical tumble to which we had right in the Seventies, and for the first time with a violin solo whereas we thought that the festival was finished... The violin solo connects naturally on the end of musical work, it was very a great moment.

Alto Saxophones

A saxophone is a musical instrument that belongs in the woodwind category. It is one of the youngest musical instruments, having been invented in the 1840s by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian. Saxophones were earlier used in the military and in big orchestras but are now found in smaller bands as well. They are generally used for big band music, pop music, concerts, marching bands and jazz music. There are four commonly used kinds of saxophones: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones.

The alto saxophone is the most common saxophone in use. It is a basic model, and is generally preferred for beginners because of its comfortable shape and size. The alto is of medium size. It is shaped like a "J" bent backwards. Some alto saxophones are also straight in shape with a slightly tipped bell. The alto is usually preferred for classical compositions from composers like Ibert, Glazunov and Debussy.

The alto, like all other saxophones, is a transposing instrument. It is in the key of E-Flat. It is slightly longer than the soprano, and also lower sounding. Hence, it is a preferred solo jazz instrument.

The main parts in an alto saxophone are: the mouth-piece, including the ligature and the reed; the main tube that has tone holes and keys; a series of rods that connect the keys to the tone holes; the pads that securely cover the tone holes and, most importantly, the bell.

The local music store, mail-order service, a private party or the Internet are different places where one can buy alto saxophones. The main aspects to be considered are the quality, service, price and the model. The Internet is a good source to find information about alto saxophones, but it is wise to test a few of them before buying.

Ages to Start a Musical Instrument With a Child

Here's a bonding idea for you: learn to play a musical instrument along with your child.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it might work in your house. In our case, I put off beginning piano lessons until my daughter turned five, now a year ago. Apparently, five is the age when kids should start piano, unless they have exhibited Mozart-like tendencies play Schubert by ear on the local baby grand. In a recent unofficial poll, 47% of people who play musical instruments started playing between the ages of four and ten.

The BBCsite has a good guide on ages to start playing different instruments based on the size of the instrument, and the lung or body strength required, in brief:

o Recorder - often recommended as a starter instrument, can be played as soon as child can get fingers over the holes
o Violin - could start at 4, but 6 is more realistic
o Wind and brass - not before second set of teeth are in
o Guitar - comes in smaller sizes and can be played as of age eight, depending on size and stretch of hands
o Singing - formal lessons not advised until teens, after voices are more developed

Ideally, in all of these cases, the child should be able to recognize numbers and know letters through G, for obvious reasons.

I found a teacher who bought into my idea of learning along with my daughter, or who at least humored me in my plan. At our first lesson, she met my daughter and me, let us plunk around on the keys, and ordered us beginner books. I did not get the one with zoo animals playing in a band, I got the more austere-looking AdultPiano Adventures.

On our second lesson, it was clear there was something wrong with my plan. My daughter banished me to the waiting area and conducted her part of the lesson in private. I was allowed five minutes at the end to show what I learned. This continued on for weeks on end, until we finally broke up our "lesson." I went on to take 45-minute bi-weekly lessons and she changed teachers for a more convenient, and private, at-school lesson. Which leads me to several things I found out about kids and learning music:

1. Wait until they are ready to learn. Unless your child appears to be a prodigy, and you're likely to see this right away, wait until at least age five to begin lessons. Some even recommend six or seven depending on the facility reading and counting.

2. At the beginning, remove any pressure to play and practice. You'll have plenty of time to spoil the love of music later when you force her or him to play four hours a day. For now, let your child play when he or she wants to. As time progresses, start with putting the child at the piano for five minutes per day and advancing from that as lessons start to take hold. Try to make music as fun as possible, and that means stopping your playing to let them in. If they want to play, let them at it.

3. Make sure your child really likes the teacher. If not, run, don't walk, to another instructor.

4. Create occasions for your child to play in front of people, with the proper warning. Our child, while not usually a performer, was relaxed playing for family when she knew and bought into the concert idea several months in advance.

5. Don't expect you'll be able to play with your child or help teach them, or you may be disappointed. I always let my daughter join me if she wants to play while I'm practicing, but I've failed miserably several times to show her how to play "her" music.

6. If possible, find easy one finger arrangements of songs your child likes. While a certain amount of instruction in the building blocks is key, there is nothing as motivating in music, to both adults and children, as playing a song that they know and love.

Experts on language teaching recommend reading aloud for all ages of students. Everyone - we adults included - enjoys being read to. Read more about Why is Reading Aloud So Important for Dads?

Choosing Which Brass Musical Instrument to Learn

Choosing a brass musical instrument to start playing may seem quite a daunting prospect. There are several factors to keep in mind such as cost, the player's physical size and weight capabilities and availability of teachers of that instrument (there are some very good online databases to assist you in finding qualified teachers in your area). The key consideration to bear in mind when choosing a brass instrument is that playing it should be fun! It's a good idea to choose your instrument according to which genre of music you like. For example, if you want to play jazz, there is no sense in learning the euphonium, whereas trumpets are popular in all genres. Some musicians get a kick from playing in an orchestra. Others opt to go solo. It's a good idea for the budding musician to keep in mind at the outset an idea of the general direction he would like to go in. After all, what started out as a hobby may flourish to become a lucrative career, and what better than to be paid for playing the music you love!

Musical Genres

A classical symphony orchestra will usually feature tenor trombones, a bass trombone, a tuba, trumpets and horns.

A traditional brass band will incorporate a soprano cornet, euphoniums, a bass trombone, a flugelhorn, baritones, tenor trombones, tubas, cornets and tenor horns.

Big bands used in swing and jazz will usually incorporate trumpets, tenor trombones and a bass trombone.

Solo instrumentalists are used in a variety of music genres, from pop to folk to blues.

Brass Instruments Types

There are two families of brass musical instrument in modern music: valved and slide.

As the name suggests, valved instruments use a set of valves which the player operates with his fingers. Valves are usually piston valves, but may be rotary valves as in the case of tubas and horns (rotary valves require special care, for example they must be cleaned by an expert - see the cleaning section for further details). Most modern brass instruments are valved instruments, including the flugelhorn, cornet, trumpet, euphonium, French horn, tuba and tenor horn.

Slide instruments incorporate a slide to change the length of tubing, and thus raising and lowering the note. Trombones are the main family of slide instruments (bar the valve trombone, which is mostly used in jazz pieces).

Bugle

The bugle category of brass instruments incorporates bugles, trumpets, flugelhorns and cornets. There are subtle differences between these instruments in appearance, sound and playing technique. Buglists are sought after by brass bands, particularly military bands.

Trumpets

The trumpet is a popular choice of brass instrument. It is ideal for the beginner. Trumpets are used in a wide variety of music genres, which should help to keep learning interesting. Trumpets are convenient to transport and store and are relatively inexpensive.

Flugelhorn

Like the trumpet and cornet, the flugelhorn belongs to the bugle family of brass musical instruments. It is similar to the trumpet but its sound is slightly sweeter. Flugelhorns are widely used in a variety of music types, from classical to traditional brass band music, and are very popular in jazz.

Cornets

The cornet is similar to the trumpet, but with a slightly more melodic sound. Cornets are ideal for beginners because they are more compact than trumpets, which makes them easier to hold. Cornets are a vital component of a traditional brass band but, like the trumpet, their musical range is extensive. Cornets are relatively inexpensive to buy.

Euphoniums and Tubas

These instruments can be enormous and tend to be quite expensive. However, euphoniumists and tubist are becoming few and far between and so are always in demand. Tubas can be so big that you may struggle fitting it into the boot. Euphoniums are smaller scaled and have a wonderful range. These instruments are elementary to the classical symphony orchestra and the traditional brass band.

French Horn

A french horn is both a beauty to behold and a delight to the ear. A good French horn will be quite expensive and challenging to learn. French horn players quite a rarity. No classical orchestra would be complete without half a dozen, however, meaning that players are much in demand.

Trombone

Despite this instrument's impressive range, trombonists are becoming an endangered species! Though the trombone is a reasonably priced instrument, its slides are very delicate and must be handled with great care. The trombone is easy to learn and there is great demand for trombonists to play in classical, swing, jazz and traditional brass bands.

Guitar Makers

American Guitar Makers

Trying to find out who manufactured the first guitars in America is no easy task. What is easy to find out is that there are dozens of guitar makers and they've all been around for quite some time. Everyone has their own preferences and artistic differences are what make each company successful. The list of guitar manufacturers is quiet long, though most people haven't heard of most manufacturers on the list. Some of the most popular and successful guitar manufactures have quite a story to tell and we will look at a few of the most famous guitar makers in the next few paragraphs.

One of the earliest versions of the guitar was made by Stradivarius, but even that version was a far cry from what we know to be the guitar today.

C.F. Martin and Company is believed to be the oldest guitar manufacturer in America, opening its doors around 1833 in Germany. But because violin makers thought that his guitars would run them out of business, Martin left Germany for America to open what would become one of the top manufacturers of all time. C. F. Martin and Co manufactures only acoustic guitars with the exception of their acoustic electric guitar. Their Dreadnought series is their best selling series and some guitarists like Eric Clapton, Johnny Cash, Beck and Jimmy Buffett have said that these are the best guitars on the market. Some of their models retail for thousands of dollars. In 2000, Martin was manufacturing over 24 thousand guitars a year, a huge improvement from the 182 that he manufactured in 1900. They built their one-millionth guitar in 2004. The guitar boasts more than 40 encrusted rubies and diamonds and is estimated to be worth one million dollars.

Gibson is probably the next oldest American guitar manufacturer. Gibson Guitar Corporation is located in Nashville, Tennessee and began manufacturing musical instruments in 1902. Their first instrument was the mandolin. Gibson was manufacturing flat top acoustic guitars and one of the first hollow body acoustic guitars in the early 1930s. They introduced their first solid body electric guitar in 1950's and signed award winning guitarist Les Paul to endorse the Gibson Les Paul guitars. Gibson Guitar Corporation has become the number one electric guitar manufacturer in the industry. All Gibson Guitars are made in the United States and they are the largest guitar manufacturer in the U.S. Gibson was the first guitar maker to build the "green guitar". One of their most recent guitars uses robotic technology designed by Gibson and can tune itself in less than 10 seconds.

Fender definitely wasn't the first company to manufacture the electric guitar; Fender's were the most successful electric guitars to be mass produced. Fender was also successful in manufacturing and selling amplifiers. Fender's amps are some of the most sought after amps on the market today. In 1965 Fender sold out all their companies to CBS for 13 million dollars. Because CBS made many money saving changes to their products, sales took a drastic turn and demand for Fender guitars dropped. Finally in 1985 the employees of Fender purchased CBS's stake in the company and renamed the company Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. Today they are manufacturing Fender's old school and most beloved guitars with some modern updates and styles.

In conclusion, these three companies are at the forefront of guitar manufacturing in America today. They all have modernized the guitar in their own unique ways. Their changes to the instruments that they manufacture has revolutionized the way guitarists play and the way we hear music forever.

Learning to Play Musical Instrument

If you recognize your music talent you are well on the path of learning to play a musical instrument. The next step is to find out the musical instrument of choice. Most popular musical instruments are guitar, piano, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and percussion instruments like drums, xylophone, vibraphone etc. Certain amateur musical instruments can be made at home using vessels etc. Here is a simple musical instrument which can be easily made using 18 china bowls. The bowls should be of different sizes. Pour water in the bowls and arrange the bowls according to the size. If you strike the rim of the bowls using a spoon you can hear a particular frequency. With a little musical talent any body can arrange the bowls in the melodic order and make music by striking the bowls.

Learning to play piano is ideal for people having less time to learn. The basic lessons are easy and with a couple of such lessons you can enjoy your own music at home even before becoming an expert. But the disadvantage is that the piano is costly and takes much space to occupy. You can go for an electronic keyboard which is less costly.

Guitar is a stringed instrument and is slightly difficult in the beginning because you will not be able to make good quality sound in the initial stages. But with slight hard work you can strum away within a year.
Violin is another stringed instrument. You have to approach violin very seriously because it takes a lifetime to master.Until you are a good player you will not be able to play solo or get along with an orchestra. Even you cannot practice at home without giving discomfort to the neighbor unless you are an expert. Flute is a wind instrument. It is made on a piece of bamboo with a closed end. There holes at different lengths. Sounds are made by closing and opening the holes using fingertips. the most difficult part of learning is the making of sound by blowing on one of the holes. When you are able to produce fairly good sound the rest will be easy. Recorder coexists with flute in the same class. The blowing is easier with the presence of mouthpiece. More serious learners can go for clarinet or even saxophone which calls for more dedication and practice. Other members of the wind category are brass instruments like trumpet, trombone, horn etc. These are better suited for people interested in making music a profession.

Brass Band Instruments For Middle School Kids

As your child grows and goes through elementary school, they are introduced to music in a variety of ways. By the time they hit the sixth grade, or middle school, they are offered the opportunity to join the school band. There are plenty of different types of instruments that can be used in a school band, but many children choose a brass band instrument.

Brass band instruments come in a wide assortment. Of course, there is a trumpet, trombone, and the tuba that many people are familiar with, but it goes beyond that. There are actually two separate trombones, a tenor and a bass, a French horn, a flugelhorn, the Coronet including the soprano cornet, baritones, and euphonium horn and all are considered a part of brass instrument family.

Brass instruments are often made of plated or lacquered brass but some, especially those that are used by professionals, may be made of silver or gold plating and even fewer are made from wood. Very rarely you will find them of stainless steel or aluminum, but because they are played with the mouth, microorganisms can develop, and this type of metal does not discourage microorganisms.

Children who begin with brass instruments often begin with the trombone, which is a slide instrument, or perhaps the cornet or trumpet a valve instrument, the baritone another valve instrument, or the tuba also a valve instrument. It's important when choosing an instrument for a child especially of the brass variety that you take the size of the child into account. The tuba and the baritones can both be quite heavy, and the slide on the trombone can be difficult to get into the right spot if a child has not grown arm length yet.

Don't let your child get discouraged because they cannot blow the proper sound at first, it takes time to develop the lungs and the breath control to play a brass instrument. With constant practice, your child will begin to learn to make the right breath control movements to play the instrument. Just remember, that enthusiasm can actually cause them to practice too long within the first couple of days, their mouth, lips, tongue, and even their chests can become sore. So don't let over enthusiasm ruin your child's enjoyment of the instrument.

World Musical Instruments - Exploring Musical Inclinations From Some Countries Around the Globe

Music is a part of our everyday lives; simply, it is a part of human nature. This is manifested by how people cater to music artists, how we fawn over the latest songs that we feel we can relate to, and how humming to the tune of our song inclination is a common sight. Indeed, music is everywhere, even before technology allowed us to make music faster and to reach people with more speed. Its prevalence today is perhaps the same as its prevalence in the past, in the sense of its pervasiveness amongst people.

When we feel happy, when we feel sad, when we feel lonely, when we feel angry, there is a kind of music, a kind of tone, a kind of song that will fit whatever we are feeling, what with the number of musical compositions we have been exposed to since our birth. Music is a creation, a production. If food needs ingredients to come to life, then musics ingredients lie in the musical instruments that bring it to life.

They say music is a universal language, because it does not matter if one can not understand he music; the flow of music may very well be enough. Almost every country, and all countries I know of, produces music. This music may serve to cater to people in that country only, or to serve a more international purpose. However it is aimed to do, the music from one country can always be heard by a person from another country if he wishes to. This is why music and musical instruments is universal, and why it is interesting to know the extent of its universality.

Musical instruments: what they are and what some countries prefer

What are musical instruments?
These are those that give off sound, and thus generate music. It is made to generate music by the one holding or owning it, such as the musician or the player making use of it. The musician or the player can then produce sound effects to his satisfaction, using these types of instruments.

World musical instruments: showing the preference of two countries
Music encompasses the globe, and so do these types of instruments, for they pave way to the production of music. There are various kinds of musical instruments to suit ones purpose of a sound effect, and these include string instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments, electronic instruments and friction instruments.

China's popular musical instruments
Almost every country has its own preference for music and thus for musical instruments, and China is no different. The musical instruments that are traditionally popular in China are made of materials that include stone, silk, gourd, metal, bamboo and wood. Wind and string instruments are very popular in China. An example of the latter is what they call an Erhu, which is a string instruments that is described as a two-stringed fiddle. An example of the latter is called the Dizi, which is a simple wind instrument made of bamboo. It is popular because it costs less than other types of these instruments and is fairly easy to learn.

Africa's popular musical instruments
In Africa, these are used to create music that has ritualistic value to them. They are used to create music for social and ceremonial functions. Percussion instruments and drums are considered to be the most popular types of musical instruments in Africa. Specifically, one of the most popular musical instruments in Africa is called the Mbira, a thumb piano that can be used in different ways by different cultures in Africa to serve a variety of purposes.

You may not have played a musical instrument in your life, nor be interested in doing so, but I am sure you have heard music being played and appreciated it. As music is a very pervasive aspect in our lives, it is always good to know whatever we can about it.
