How to Maintain a Guitar

Guitar Care Tips

Often times people who have musical instruments ignore maintenance of musical instruments. For example a guitar. We care for motorcycles, cars, computers and other items that we like. What about the guitar? Often we ignore it. Here are some tips about guitar maintenance that need attention by the owner.

Having a guitar case

We need a house for shelter as well as the guitar need a bag case. It aims to protect them from dirt or from the clashes that could damage the guitar. Indeed, some guitars often played not need to be given case, but if you're a guitarist who likes to hold concerts or if you frequently travel to bring the guitar, you must have a guitar case. There are two types of guitar case, hard and soft.

Hard Case

Hard-case usually made of wood or plastic / fiber that is strong enough and thick. This is very safe to protect the guitar. It's suitable to be owned by a guitarist who is often on tour and travel.

Soft Case

Soft-case is usually made of leather or thick cloth. Soft-case is lighter and easy to carry anywhere. Suitable for use when we are not very frequent traveler and for those who frequent the studio to practice. If you do not play guitar, you should always save them in case.

Gig-Bag

Gig-Bag is a combination of hard case and soft case. This case is more efficient, not too bothered when brought because the lining is thicker than soft case and easy to carry. If you do not want to be bothered to bring hard case, I recommend that you use the Gig-Bag is when you bring the guitar.

Clean Strings

At least once a week, wipe your strings. There is research that while playing the guitar, human sweat from his hands. This is because the brain works and hand gestures are enough to drain energy. It is rarely recognized by the guitarist. Use the original string, it can make the guitar sound to be better aligned with the standardization of quality guitars. Now try looking at your guitar. whether your guitar surface dirty? If you are not diligent in cleaning the strings, it also will arise rust on your strings. Rusty strings that will damage your guitar fret so that at some point you'll find some tones that you pick in your guitar sound is not perfect, because the strings touch the frets are eroded. Guitar strings can be cleaned by wipe with a lead pack of cigarettes that can remove rust on the strings (usually a good string will quickly rust). You can wet your guitar strings with string liquid cleaner (cleaning strings) available in music stores.

Put the Right Place

Putting the right guitar with the neck facing upwards. Usually, after playing the guitar people would put it on the position of the upper neck end affixed to the wall, while the guitar body at the bottom of the stick on the surface of the floor, so, the guitar is placed in a slanting position. This is really not good for the guitar because it will make a crooked neck slowly.

Good luck
